About my work

Encourage. Inspire. Challenge. And Convict.

Those four words sum up what I believe God has called me to for the next few years. I've committed to working at YWAM Brisbane until at least June 2013 in two roles - hospitality and communications/media - which fall under the support staff category.

As the main hospitality staff member I'll be working to build a 'family' and 'homey' feel for students, staff and other guests. YWAM Brisbane runs four Discipleship Training Schools each year, plus other courses, so it's important to have a welcoming place for everyone who comes here. Some of my daily jobs include laundry for guest room, setting up guest rooms (kind of like a bed and breakfast), preparing/clearing morning tea (very Australian), and making welcome or thank you cards.  Essentially, the tasks I do are really noticed if they don't get done.

For the communications/media role I will writing for the YWAM Brisbane website and Twitter feed. Both web-based areas will keep people informed about ministires with which the base is invovled and/or  provide information for people considering doing a DTS.

The YWAM Brisbane website describes support staff this way:
In the human body, the backbone serves the purpose of strengthening and supporting the structure of the entire system. Without the backbone, everything falls apart! The same is true for our backbone staff here at YWAM Brisbane. We call them backbone staff because they are part of the core team that strengthens our base by fulfilling the day to day logistical tasks that keep our centre running safely and smoothly. Often working “behind the scenes,” these backbone staff include those facilitating the kitchen, maintenance, hospitality, accounts, reception, registrar, IT, communications, and administration.
Although their work often goes unseen, these staff are central to keeping our ministry operating in the highest level of excellence. We value these staff just as much as the active disciplers and evangelists. Whether someone is leading worship or washing dishes, it makes no difference - we believe that both are spiritual acts and both are significant contributions of ministry here at YWAM Brisbane (Col. 3:17).
And of course, I'll be writing for my own blog too during my time at YWAM Brisbane. I really value that you track along with what I'm doing, the ministries with which I am invovled, and also following what God is doing in my life. I pray that this too will encourage, inspire, challenge and convict you.

Best,
Lisa
